Robert Collis

Dr. Robert Collis is a Leverhulme Research Fellow in the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies at The University of Sheffield, where his current research is focusing on the topic of Western esotericism and the Russian elite in the long eighteenth century (1689-1825).  He completed his PhD in 2008 at The University of Turku (Finland) and his recently published monograph is a revised edition of his doctoral thesis (which won the 2009 inaugural Thesis Prize of the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism). Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Collis studied at The University of Sussex, where he completed his BA (Hons.) in Contemporary History and his MA in Russian Studies. In addition to his recent monograph, Dr. Collis is the co-editor of a collected volume, entitled Freemasonry and Fraternalism in Eighteenth-Century Russia  (2009) and numerous articles.
